Use Cases
Here are example use cases that can benefit from the Central Archives identity provider:
- A website for sharing glamour plates wants to let its users show how these glamours look on their characters, and proudly link them. However, to do so, it needs to verify that the users actually own the characters they want to register.
- A Dalamud plugin provides a card minigame. Players with the plugin can challenge each other in-game. However, to do that, users of the plugin need to sign in with their characters to the card game's lobby server, which in turn needs to be able to verify that a connecting instance of the plugin actually represents the in-game character it claims to represent.
- A fan forum for FFXIV players wants users to be able to post using their character names, and would rather delegate the duties of character verification via Lodestone to another service.
All these cases are served by the Central Archives Identity API. The users will need to register and verify their characters only once, on the Central Archives website itself, and then enjoy the convenience of the "Sign in with Central Archives" button on all services that support it.
